From my very first appointment with Mr Monkhouse I felt at ease with him. I was quite a challenging case however he was understanding to my cause. He took time to listen to what I had to say regarding my past medical history and my concerns regarding my gastric banding. Although my surgery was almost 12 years ago and am aware of the problems this surgery can cause he still took time to refresh my memory on the do's and dont's relating to this procedure which was very much appreciated. His explanation both verbally and in diagram form was very clear and concise. His patient manner is excellent and his caring is exemplary. I would certainly recommend him to any of my family or friends. If there is a downside to Mr Monkhouse it would be that North Tyneside General Hospital has lost an excellent Doctor. I wish him well in his pursuits for Consultant

I have worked as the FY1 doctor in the same team as Mr Monkhouse for four months in North Tyneside Genersl Hospital. Simon comes into work every day before every other member of the team to ensure he has time to see his patients and not rush them. He is always available and happy to review or give advice about the patients on the ward. As a new doctor many things are new but Simon makes any question feel like it isn't a silly question. He gives us all day to day feedback too which is very rarely done by senior doctors. Both positive and negative feedback which helps to build knowledge but also makes us feel appreciated as juniors. Simon has also taken the time to teach practical skills. I was able to aspirate fluid from a patients gastric band. This was completely new to me. I felt confident because Simon explained everything I needed to do before we went into the patients room. Simon has been an excellent Registrar to have in my first surgical job.

Mr Monkhouse is fantastic! I had the honour of being only his third solo gastric bypass and I would heartily recommend him to anyone who will listen! He took the time to explain both the procedure and its advantages/disadvantages in detail and no question was too daft for him to answer - nothing was too much trouble! His patient communication skills and clinical expertise are second to none and his obvious enthusiasm for his work and good humour were a delight to see. I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever that Mr Monkhouse will make an outstanding Consultant and would like to take this opportunity to thank him for everything he has done for me and to wish him all the very best for a bright future!

Mr Monkhouse visited me on the ward before my surgery, i was naturally scared before my operation ( gastric bypass). he reassured me and talked to me. he put me at ease and you can tell he is a very caring doctor. after the surgery he visited me at 6am to check how i was doing and to look at the incisions. he will be a great miss in the north east as he is a fantastic doctor.

I met with Mr Monkhouse today to discuss the option of getting a gastric balloon fitted. I found him to be very caring, with a friendly approach which i found very realaxing for me. He had excellent interpersonal skills and listened to everything i said. He was very understanding and gave praise which made me feel very confident and relaxed in his presence. I couldn't rate this man higher he is going to be an incredible Consultant Surgeon and anyone lucky enough to met him will rate him high too. I only wish he was staying in the North East but i want to wish him all the best for the future.
